Terms of Service

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of Rankabl (“Rankabl,” “we,” “us”), a web service for ranking things by pairwise comparison. By accessing Rankabl you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

Rankabl lets you cast pairwise votes on items in lists, view personal and community rankings, create your own lists, follow other users, and compare your taste to others. Features may change, expand, or be removed at any time.

You must be at least 13 years old to use Rankabl. If you are under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you represent that your parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

You may use Rankabl anonymously (identified only by a cookie) or sign in to create an account through our authentication provider, Clerk. You are responsible for activity that occurs under your account or anonymous identifier. We may suspend, ban, or delete an account that we believe is being used to abuse the service, manipulate rankings, harass other users, or violate these Terms.

You retain ownership of the lists, descriptions, and rankings you create on Rankabl (“Your Content”). To operate the service and pursue commercial uses described in these Terms, you grant Rankabl a worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable, and transferable license to host, store, reproduce, display, perform, modify, distribute, and create derivative works of Your Content, in any media now known or later developed.

This license survives the deletion of your account with respect to copies of Your Content already shared, aggregated, or distributed. You represent that you have the right to grant this license and that Your Content does not infringe anyone else's rights.

Rankabl may use, share, license, sell, or otherwise commercialize aggregated and anonymized data derived from user activity, including ranking statistics, popularity trends, and taste signals. Aggregated and anonymized data does not identify individual users and is not subject to the personal-data protections in our Privacy Policy.

You agree not to:

• Use bots, scripts, or automated tools to vote, scrape, or otherwise interact with the service without our written permission.
• Manipulate rankings through coordinated voting, sock-puppet accounts, vote-buying, or other inauthentic activity.
• Upload or contribute content that is unlawful, defamatory, infringing, abusive, sexually explicit, harassing, or that depicts minors in a sexual or exploitative way.
• Probe, scan, or attempt to breach the security of the service or its infrastructure.
• Impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation with anyone.
• Use the service to send spam, phishing, or malware.
• Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code, except where local law expressly permits despite this restriction.

We may suspend or terminate your access to Rankabl, with or without notice, if we believe you have violated these Terms or that your use poses a risk to the service or other users. You may stop using the service at any time. The license you grant in Section 5 and the disclaimers and limits in Sections 10–12 survive termination.

You may delete your account at any time through the account settings. When you delete your account, your personal data — including email, profile fields, avatar, and account identifiers — is removed. Your votes and ranking contributions are retained in anonymized form so that community rankings and aggregate signals remain stable; once anonymized, this data is no longer linked to you and is no longer personal data. Rankabl is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure. We do not guarantee the accuracy of rankings, metadata, or any third-party content surfaced through the service.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Rankabl will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or the service will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose, or (b) one hundred US dollars ($100).

You agree to indemnify and hold Rankabl harmless from any claim, demand, loss, or damages, including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising from Your Content, your use of the service, or your violation of these Terms.

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date and may surface a notice in-product. Your continued use of the service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute will be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Texas, and you consent to personal jurisdiction in those courts.
